| You: May I please speak to Lisa? Lisa: Yes, this is she. Who is calling? You: Hi, Lisa. I’m Mike Jones with __________. Recently you responded to an ad or mailer saying you were looking for a lucrative business. Is this true? Lisa: Well, I am looking, but it is getting pretty confusing. You: Yes, I’m sure it is. Have you got a few minutes for a telephone interview? (interview sounds professional) Lisa: Just a few minutes. You: Well, Lisa, do you know what kind of business you are looking for? Lisa: Not really. I just want to make some money from home. You: How much money do you want to make? Lisa: I’d love to quit my job, but to do that, I’d have to make about $2,000 a month. You: Can you tell me a little about yourself, Lisa? What do you do for a living now? Lisa: I work as a dental hygienist. You: Do you enjoy your work? Lisa: It’s OK. I just need more income. I have 2 children and I am the only income. You: Wow. That is tough. I think you are going to be interested in our company, but first let me ask just two more questions. First, assuming your were interested in doing this, do you think you could find 8 to 10 hours a week for your business? Lisa: Yes, I think so. You: Do you think you would be able to invest $______ (whatever your minimum start-up is) into starting your business? (You need to get these two questions out of the way early. You don’t want to find out they are totally broke after you spend 15 minutes with them.) Lisa: Yes, I think I could do that. Tell me about the business. You: Our company markets it’s products/services through independent representatives. As a representative, you would have all the support and training you need to get started the right way, and you can take part in our Fast Start program designed to get you making more money quickly. There are several ways to make money with us. First is marketing the product/service and earning retail profit. Second is developing and training a sales and management team of your own. The large residual incomes in our business are earned by the second way, developing a team of your own. What area do you see yourself working in? Lisa: Well, I’d have to think about it. I’m not much of a sale person, but I do like helping people. I’d probably like to do both. You: Lisa, what we need to do now is take some time and really introduce you to the company and some of our leaders. Would you like to listen to a short business presentation over the phone? |
If your company does not have conference call presentations, you may want to 3-way your prospect in with one of your upline leaders or let them check out your web site. Perhaps you could fax some information to them. Mailing expensive packets of information is to be avoided if at all possible. People ask for you to send information packets, and we have mailed lots of them. It is hard to tell if the person is really interested or are they just saying, “Yea, I’ll look at it. Send me a packet.” It seems like you are throwing money at the mail box if you are not very careful.
Your goal with an opportunity lead is to lead them along a simple process of becoming familiar with your company, learning about your product/service, and learning to trust you. Always be totally honest and give realistic earning potential. If a person thinks you are stretching the truth, they will not trust you enough to join you in business. People that are long distance really need to be self starters. You don’t want to direct them to someone else’s meetings if you can help it, because you want them to do their own presentations as soon as possible.
If you do decide to mail a packet of information, ask the person if they would rather read something, listen to a cassette or CD, or watch a video or DVD. Send them information on the condition that they promise to look at it within two days, and set a phone appointment for follow-up. Keep up with them until you have a yes or a referral.
In closing, I would like to encourage you to keep your “Big Picture” in the front of your mind. You really have two choices. The first choice is to except your life just as it is, knowing you can achieve more goals and help more people, but you were not willing to do what it takes to make it happen. The second choice is MAKE IT HAPPEN! Don’t let any thing or any body throw you off course. Take the “so what, big deal” attitude. Is your upline in another state? “So what. Big deal. I’ll do it myself.” One of your dealers quit? “So what. Big deal. They love the products, and no one got hurt. I’ll find better people next time.” Keep your faith mountain-top high on your company, your products/service, yourself, and MLM by constantly feeding your mind health food! If you do, YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!
